Cnet posted an article from Photo Marketing Association where Olympus says they won’t exceed 12 megapixels or get into the megapixel race.  It’s good to hear a major manufacturer state this (though I wish it would’ve been Nikon, Canon or Sony) as I couldn’t agree more that megapixels are more important to marketing cameras than producing photos.

In the summer of last year my iPod Classic finally decided that it had enough of me and tapped out.  While I LOVED having the MP3 player, I’m not a fan of Apple so I replaced it with an 80 gig Zune.  The Zune hardware is pretty similar to the iPod Classic but the software is much sleeker and far more automated than iTunes.

A few months ago MS added a Picks feature into Zune (iTunes calls it Genius Playlist) where the software analyzes songs I’ve listened to, how often I play them and what people with similar tastes also listen to.  It then provides recommendations.

Great feature… however I feel slightly insulted as it suggests Bon Jovi, Nickelback and Linkin Park.  Ouch.

Just got back from a 2 day wine bender in the Finger Lakes and another 2 days in NYC.  NYC is as cool as it always is.  Got some random pics around the city and took the first trip to the Statue in about 20 years.  Hopefully I’ll get a chance to post some more pics this week… hopefully…

The world is about to thaw and I’m getting a little hyper up to get out and start shooting it up.  Some of my travel plans are picking back up and within the next two weeks I’ll be taking a trip to Houston (which I hear is a dump but I’ll be at a resort so who knows…), the Finger Lakes and NYC.  So tons of chances to get shots and post em.

Yes, this is the 2nd post within a week.  I hate to set a standard for myself that I know I will never keep but I saw this article on Cnet.com about programs that do the same functions as Photoshop but are free.  I haven’t checked out the video yet but for me maybe 85% of the post production work is done with 2 or 3 steps in Photoshop, so the rest of the program can be overkill.  Plus … if you shoot RAW you can pretty much eliminate the need to use Photoshop.  Just some food for thought.  See you next month!

So the past few months this site has become my middle child.  I figured I’d try to at LEAST update the entry page with a picture of our youthful and vibrant dog Violet.  Mwahahaha.  There are a few trips planned within the next few months so the content should be rolling in again.  I’ve also had a jonesin lately for some black and whites to use as deco in the house which should lead to some decent shots.

I’m in Toronto until tomorrow and have about an hour to kill before smoozing and drinking so I thought I’d write up something on RAW and Jpeg file formats.  Any dSLR should give the option to shoot in RAW and I think a lot of P&S style cams do as well but my guess is that not many people know the difference of which is better.  Hold your nose and let’s dive in.

I’m in L.A. this week for a Wind conference and after a ton of free drinks and a meeting with a lawyer about what could get us thrown in jail… we headed to the conference. I’m hoping to get some pics this week as well but the schedule will be tight and I’m just now realizing that downtown L.A. isn’t quite the hot spot I had hoped it would be. Ok… I’m waving the white flag.  The site is getting spammed to death.  Notice how you can post comments in each post if you want you???  When you post something I get an email and the post sits in a queue.  If it’s worthwhile I approve it… if it’s poops I mark it as such and it’s deleted.  I’m up to about 50 / 60 poop-posts a day and it is a pain in the ass to sort through (which I do about a once week) so I’ve thrown on a Register option. 

You can click that link or there’s a Register link in the menu on the right and provide a User name and email.  You’ll get a password sent and then you can use that to login and post.  I walked through it already and it’s very basic.

Hopefully everyone has had a decent holiday and will have a safe New Years. I’ve been in IL for a little bit now and have had a few really good opportunities to get shots. I also got a polarizer filter for Christmas that I’ve put to good use already as well as the infrared filter. I’ll be back in New York New Year’s Eve and should have a decent sized update coming along shortly.

I also found out during my last week of work before vacation that I’ll be visiting a Wind site in Texas in early January.  I’ll have to verify that cameras are allowed on site (though I’ve seen a few pics from others so it shouldn’t be an issue) but I’m hoping to come back to NY with a few really cool shots.
